A Boysenberry is a cross between a Blackberry. Raspberry and Loganberry. The aromatic purple berries are produced from this trailing vine in the summer from one year old canes and are delicious. Summer berries are some what of a Kiwi icon, and will often remind the older generation of scrambling down banks in the summer collecting buckets of blackberry for mother! (later to be made into Blackberry and Apple crumble or jams and my favourite- jellies!)
It pays to mulch in the spring with compost then train the canes on a supporting frame / trellis or even a pergola, this makes harvesting easier. Protect from strong winds. Then in winter cut and remove all canes close to the ground. This will encourage new shoots to form which will bear fruit the following year.
These plants have at least 2 canes and are staked.
